What to expect... GCSE English Language classes based on the Eduqas exam board, although the skills are transferable across most exam boards as the Assessment Objectives are very similar. These classes are designed to build students’ confidence in both reading and writing skills, while helping them become familiar with GCSE-style questions and exam techniques. Students will practise analysing texts, developing written responses, and improving the skills needed to succeed in the exam. These classes provide the basics, but for best results students do also need to complete independent work, such as practising papers and tasks.
Ideal for... Students wanting to prepare for their GCSE exams. Ideally, students would already have a grasp of basics of writing (planning, writers' techniques, spelling, punctuation, grammar) and an understanding of reading skills (comprehension, analysing writers' use of language and techniques) but this will be covered in the course. If you feel your child needs extra support with these things, perhaps consider starting with a KS3 class first.

What to expect... GCSE English Literature classes based on the AQA exam board, although the skills are transferable across most exam boards as the Assessment Objectives are very similar. These classes are designed to help students build confidence in analysing literature, developing thoughtful interpretations, and writing effective exam responses. Students will explore key themes, characters, context, writers’ methods, and essay structure, while also practising exam-style questions and revision techniques. Lessons focus on developing the analytical and comparison skills needed for success in GCSE Literature exams.
As there is not enough time within lessons to study every text cover to cover, students will be expected to complete independent reading and revision alongside the course. Regular practice of exam questions and tasks outside of class will also help students achieve the best results.
Ideal for... Students wanting to prepare for their GCSE exams, particularly those who enjoy literature, discussion, and reading. A basic understanding of analysing writers’ techniques and language would be beneficial, although these skills will continue to be developed throughout the course. Students who are willing to read independently and engage with the set texts outside of lessons, as well as complete additional work, are likely to gain the most from the classes.
