What to expect... English classes based on the UK National Curriculum for KS3. Students will explore a range of texts, including Shakespeare, 19th-century literature, modern texts, and poetry, while developing skills such as comprehension, summarising, analysing language, and responding to texts.
Writing tasks will include both creative and transactional writing, such as stories, letters, speeches, reports, reviews, and persuasive writing. Classes follow an “I do, we do, you do” approach, where new skills are modelled together before students practise independently.

Ideal for... Students working at Year 7, 8, or 9 level who want to strengthen their English skills and stay aligned with the curriculum in preparation for potential future GCSE study. Suitable for students wanting to build confidence in reading, writing, and analysing texts.

What to expect… Each half term the class studies a chosen book, reading a few chapters independently each week, then exploring the themes and topics through discussion and creative activities in the lessons. Books from different genres are chosen to give children a well rounded knowledge of writing styles, language and authors. The class then reviews the book at the end of each half term, reflecting on their overall thoughts and feelings.

Ideal for... Ages 7-11, children who can read Key Stage 2 level books independently or with minimal support. Perfect for keen readers, or as a way to help more hesitant readers build confidence and develop a love of reading.
