The Boy Who Loved Maps – Lesson Pack

From real places to dream destinations, this lesson brings map-making to life.

Inspired by the book The Boy Who Loved Maps by Kari Allen, this creative geography lesson introduces children to the role of a cartographer and the many different types of maps we use to understand the world around us.

Children will listen to the story and explore guided discussion questions to support comprehension and reflection. They’ll learn about compass roses and map keys, then use their imagination to create a map of their perfect place—finishing with an information leaflet to describe their new location. Along the way, they’ll be reminded of the importance of perseverance and not giving up.

What’s included:
• Pre-recorded lesson (20 minutes plus activity time)
• Printable worksheets and activity materials
• Handy links to extend learning at home

An inspiring, hands-on lesson that combines geography, creativity, and growth mindset.
